Q.  Could you tell us about your company’s business?

We manufacture and sell in-vehicle type small cranes called cargo cranes that can be mounted on trucks. A small crane used for transporting construction materials such as concrete, electric wires, or pipes for pipelines. Of course, it can also be used for general transportation. This small crane can be installed on any truck, but in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, Japanese truck manufacturers have a very high market share, so as a result, it is often installed on Hino Motors and Isuzu Motors. situation. Our customers include construction equipment rental companies and construction companies.

Looking at the Tadano Group, until now, the only production base for truck-mounted compact cranes was in Japan. However, from the perspective of further expanding overseas business, after entering Thailand in 2012, we have been working on the manufacture and sale of small cranes since 2013. Sales destinations are mainly for emerging countries in regions such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

One day, the HR manager was forced to resign. When we started from scratch in 2012, that employee was our first employee and was in charge of everything from the company establishment procedures. At that time, the expatriates from Japan didn’t understand anything, and of course they didn’t understand Thai, so I entrusted her with various things. One day, she suddenly disappeared, and I completely lost track of everything that I could have known by asking her until then, such as the location of the company’s articles of incorporation, valuable information related to personnel affairs, and the company’s legal documents. rice field. Furthermore, HR information is very confidential information, so I can’t ask other people in the company to do it.

In parallel with discovering and hiring new human resources, it was a situation where it was necessary to grasp “what kind of work she was doing and where and what kind of documents?” On the other hand, we could not delay the payment of employees’ salaries, so we urgently needed someone who could handle confidential information immediately. Meanwhile, Toyo Business Service Co., Ltd., which had requested legal consulting, introduced A-CAST to us. bottom. Not only was he speedy, but he was also very good at acting as a mediator when it came to handing over the work, which was extremely helpful. In a sense, he came in from the standpoint of a third party, and it seems that the person in charge of practical work at our company also honestly conveyed the actual situation. Of course, it was due to the personality and ability of the Thai person in charge of A-CAST. Twice a week, A-CAST staff visited our company. As a main work content, he also conducted hearings of employees’ opinions and grasped our company’s problems, not stopping the routine of practical work such as salary payment. I wanted to draw out this area firmly and make use of it in the next human resources search.

We had a one-on-one interview with our staff. A total of 10 people were targeted, including the main members of our company and subordinates of retired managers. We received a report on the content of the hearing and the consideration by the person in charge of A-CAST. It was a good opportunity for me because I don’t have the opportunity to objectively know what’s going on in the company.

Issues due to successor

After all, I only know the current situation, partly because I am coming as a successor. Also, since I only know how this company is doing now, I was faced with various issues such as “Is this correct? Is it common?” Even when employees say, “This is the normal way of doing things in Thailand. This is how we’ve been doing it until now.” In that sense, it was a great learning experience for me to have a third party look at it and give me a concrete explanation of “this is it.”

 

Q.  What do you expect from A-CAST in the future?

I believe that the risks I mentioned earlier will continue to exist in the future. For example, a staff member suddenly resigns. Especially since we are a small company with a small number of people, we cannot put more than one person in one place. Since each person has a large area of responsibility, I believe that there is no choice but to take it as a risk. For me, the presence of A-CAST at such times is reliable.
